""Our mission is to provide the very best structured 12 Step treatment programmes, which will enable individuals to live their lives fully, free from stress and the effects of alcohol, drugs and prescription medication. We also treat a wide variety of behavioural disorders including food, OCD and problems with gambling, sex, video games and the internet. “

According to the US National Institute of Drug Abuse, “no single treatment is appropriate for everyone.” All those who misuse alcohol and drugs do so for different reasons and the resulting impact on each person and their lives is different. We believe that the treatment for addiction must be tailored to the specific needs of the patient. We treat each client with their own personalised programme, which significantly increases their chances of long-term recovery. At Phoenix Programmes we offer a range of therapy options for the treatment of alcoholism, drug addiction and behavioural disorders.

Client Stories

We moved to Spain nearly five years ago and at first life was amazing. We’d always enjoyed a party but, over time, my partner’s drinking got steadily worse. He told me I was worrying unnecessarily and that it was part of the ‘expat lifestyle’ but I began to become really frightened about the effect on his health and our relationship. He wouldn’t go to the doctor but I managed to persuade him to go for an assessment at Phoenix Programmes. I think he did it to pacify me, but I will never forget the look on his face when he came out. For the first time he realised that he did have a problem and needed help, which thankfully the Phoenix team were able to provide.
Alcohol Use Disorder
For me, one of the best things about living in Spain was the social scene and every night felt like party night. But for me, as I watched my marriage, my relationships and my career disintegrate around me it slowly dawned on me that I wasn’t enjoying the party any more. By that stage I was drinking and using heavily and simply didn’t know how to stop. I knew I needed help but I also knew I couldn’t afford the time or money for residential rehab. That’s when I was referred to Phoenix Programmes where, after an initial assessment, I began a Day Treatment programme which took me, step by step, through my problem and its underlying causes, right through to a solution.
Drug Abuse
As an HR manager I had becoming increasingly concerned about one of our employees. We’d noticed that her attendance had become erratic, her productivity at work had become very poor and we were starting to get complaints from clients. We were worried as she had always been one of our best team members. Eventually, she admitted that she was drinking heavily due to problems in her personal life. We arranged for her to attend a Phoenix Screening assessment, which helped her to better understand her problem and the impact it was having, as well as giving her some clear advice on controlling her drinking.
Alcohol Use Disorder
If you had asked me what my opinion of someone with a drug problem would be I would have described anybody but myself. Drug addicts were dirty criminals not people like me. After a nasty car accident, I was prescribed strong painkillers, although my dependency on them grew and grew until I was concealing the true extent of my usage and lying and deceiving people all around me to get my hands on what I needed. I was persuaded to undergo an assessment at Phoenix Programmes, which revealed the true nature and extent of my problem and led to a series of 1:1 therapy sessions at which I was finally able to confront and deal with what I now recognise was becoming a dangerous addiction.
Prescription Drug Abuse
I work for a large organisation in the hospitality sector and we were becoming increasingly concerned about the impact alcohol and drugs were having on a number of our employees. Although the problems weren’t necessarily about addiction, we knew that we potentially had a problem on our hands. We contacted Phoenix Programmes for help and they arranged a week long awareness programme for a group of employees and managers, which covered a broad range of subjects relating to alcohol and drug use, including the workplace impact, spotting problems & interventions, the medical implications and sources of help and treatment.
Alcohol & Drug Awareness
I knew that my drinking had become a problem when I started having blackouts & needing a drink in the morning to get me started. But I was a skilled manipulator and I managed to hide the extent of my drinking, although eventually I couldn’t hide it any more and ended up losing my job and with it my home. I was absolutely terrified, but all I could think of was my next drink; thankfully, one of my few remaining friends drove me, shaking uncontrollably, to the Phoenix practice for an assessment. My condition was so bad that I was admitted straightaway for detox which turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me and opened the door to a Day Treatment programme which helped me to finally find a meaningful life without alcohol.

“The gateway theory of drug abuse”

“The gateway theory of drug abuse” is the idea that use of a so called “softer” drug such as alcohol or marijuana often leads on to the use of a “harder” drug such as cocaine or heroin. This theory was first introduced to the public in the 1970s by Columbia researcher Denise Kandel.
