Melonie - Alcoholic (UK) - Mar 2011

I was, probably like many others, who come into rehab; not looking forward to it but had got to the point where I had to get help. I am SO pleased and relieved I made it.

The thought of never having a drink again seemed like a life sentence; and I had envisaged sober life as dull, grey, and flat.  In fact, just the opposite is true and every day I am so grateful to have got to treatment when I did, so I now have the life I want.  People talk about getting their lives back and it is true, and much more.  I did not realise how much I was missing out on and can only find positives in being sober.

The help I received at the residential rehab centre was invaluable.  As most of the staff are in recovery themselves, they are extremely sensitive to the different emotions you go through and offer all the support they can.  You are taken through the 12 steps and educated in a clear and easy to understand way; and they are happy to help with any questions or difficulties personal to you.

There is also a full aftercare programme available for when you leave which is important and I found reassuring. I cannot thank them enough for what I've got now and if anyone is in two minds about whether or not to take the plunge into getting treatment for any type of addiction, anxiety or depression, I’d tell them to definitely go to Phoenix Programmes as they know what they are doing and it works.

I have learnt so much through being shown in detail the 12 Step program. I feel I have learnt so much more about myself and I now have so much more knowledge about the disease and the program, and how to keep me from relapsing. This is an experience I will never forget. I had been around AA for 6 years going in and out. Now I feel a definite change within me and a deeper understanding of the program. Which I will put into practice in the outside world. You have turned things around for me.

  • Alex - Addiction (Spain) - Nov 2021

I joined my local twelve-step fellowship in Spain because my cannabis addiction had got out of control and I finally realised I needed help. I wanted to stop but could not - instead, my consumption kept increasing. I was spending all day every day smoking a cocktail of skunk, hash and high-concentration cannabis oil, unable to do anything else except occasionally indulge in other drugs and alcohol. It was seriously damaging my mental, emotional and social functioning,
